DC Summer Program
There is no better way for a law student to get to know us than to join our summer program. The program is designed to allow students to explore the practice areas at Dow Lohnes. Summer associates work directly with partners and associates in all of our practice areas and receive a professional experience substantially similar to that of first and second-year associates. Because of our carefully developed assignment process, summer associates are assured the opportunity to work on a wide variety of legal issues for clients - such as Internet-related contract negotiations, intellectual property disputes, corporate mergers, sophisticated tax planning, white collar investigations, higher education policy, pro bono civil rights cases and telecommunications deals, just to name a few.

2007 Summer Associates - DC Summer Program
To make an informed decision about where to build your legal career, it is helpful to experience life in the nation’s Capitol through cultural events, educational programs, sporting events and other activities available in the city. The extensive social agenda in our summer program - including informal lunches, TGIF parties, softball games and the more organized programs, such as the practice group events, boat cruises, trips to concerts, the theatre and major league sporting events - help each student learn more about the Washington, D.C. area and about the firm’s greatest asset, its people.
Dow Lohnes is not a typical Washington firm. In fact, our firm offers a unique combination of legal services - both new and traditional practice areas focusing on specific industries serving the information economy. As an associate at Dow Lohnes, you will work with clients across the spectrum within the media and high technology industries, from traditional communications and telecommunications companies to Internet start-ups and online universities, from newspapers and magazines to electronic publishers and from satellite providers to venture capitalists. We also do virtually every kind of legal work for clients. Often on the cutting edge of legal issues, our services include corporate mergers and acquisitions, complex commercial and intellectual property litigation, technology licensing agreements, communications and education regulatory counseling, antitrust counseling, tax restructuring, government relations and more.
The summer program is open to students who have completed two years of legal study, to graduates planning to start judicial clerkships and to a limited number of students who have completed their first year of law school. The program is supervised by a partner and a team of associates who actively monitor the work assignment process, ensuring that each associate experiences projects in his or her particular areas of interest and that substantive feedback is provided on each assignment throughout the summer. Each summer associate also has an attorney-advisor and the full range of resources and support staff available to Dow Lohnes attorneys.

“Dow Lohnes gives summer associates the opportunity to work directly with experienced partners on projects that cross practice groups. Summer associates have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge legal issues that affect the everyday lives of Americans. Additionally, people interact with the media and information clients Dow Lohnes represents on a daily basis. The best part of the Dow Lohnes experience comes from working directly with partners at the top of their fields on legal concerns that matter to consumers.”
