Practice Group Assignments

One unique aspect of Dow Lohnes is the constant interaction and teamwork among the lawyers of different practice groups. Consistent with this approach, incoming associates are not permanently assigned during their first six months with Dow Lohnes; instead, they are assigned to work with lawyers in two practice areas. Our goal is that each new associate gets broad exposure to practical application of the law in general to different types of legal practice, and to at least two different practice areas. The first-year program is designed to give associates an understanding of the interrelation of client problems and an appreciation of the full range of client services offered by the firm. At the end of six months, the firm makes permanent assignments to practice groups based upon each associate's preferences and the needs of the groups.

“The Dow Lohnes open rotation program placed me in the Communications and Telecommunications practice groups for my first six months at the firm. Lawyers in both groups have given me challenging work and a lot of training, but working with broadcasting and cable clients, with their different viewpoints, has really made this a great experience.”
