Mike Hines’ practice at the firm focuses on tax and corporate law, including business transfers and exchanges; Internal Revenue Service and state audit, appeal and litigation matters; federal and state legislative work and family wealth transfer planning.
Mr. Hines’ coordinated television industry tax executive efforts in 2006 to resolve favorably the consequences of the FCC’s changes in frequency and equipment usage to expand wireless communications. He has also worked with media industry organizations and coalitions in preparing comments on proposed regulations under Section 199 affecting media industries and on Internal Revenue Service position statements on media businesses. Recently Mr. Hines has been active advising Media operators whose tax benefits under Section 199 or like-kind exchanges are being challenged by the Internal Revenue Service.
Mr. Hines is a frequent speaker and writer on tax matters, especially as they relate to the media industry. He has appeared on panels sponsored by the Tax Executives Institute, the Media Industry Tax Group, the Media Financial Management Association, the Broadband Tax Institute, the National Association of Broadcasters, and the Federal Communications Bar Association.
