Archdiocesan Legal Network provides services to low income individuals concerning landlord/tenant disputes, government benefits, domestic issues, employment, wills & probate, conservatorship & guardianship, power of attorney agreements, and insolvency and bankruptcy. Dow Lohnes has assisted this organization for years by performing telephone intake of matters every Friday morning.
Human Rights First provides legal representation to individuals seeking political asylum in the United States.
Legal Aid Society of DC counsels low income clients in child custody, child support, and child visitation disputes as well as landlord/tenant disputes and simple civil litigation. Over the last several years, Dow Lohnes has been named as one of the top fundraising firms of its size for the Generous Associates Campaign: Giving for Justice.
Legal Counsel for the Elderly (LCE) specializes in obtaining legal representation for the destitute elderly in the District of Columbia. Typical projects include drafting wills and powers of attorney and assisting clients with bankruptcy and credit issues, consumer rights issues, housing foreclosure and eviction, probate assistance, and Social Security Administration disputes.
Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts provides legal assistance to artists and arts organizations, including contract review, copyright advice and assistance, first amendment disputes, and non-profit organization status.
Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs provides help to low income clients in need of assistance with employment discrimination and bias cases, fair housing cases, disability rights projects, and asylum and refugee cases. This group also works with law firms to provide public schools with a variety of services including tutoring, "career days", providing food as a means to increase attendance at PTA meetings, and sponsoring fund raisers.
Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless provides direct representation to homeless individuals and families on a wide variety of legal matters, including public benefits cases, employment matters, and other civil legal matters.
Whitman-Walker Clinic provides pro bono legal services for people living with HIV/AIDS.
Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program recruits and trains volunteers to accept cases for representation before the U.S. Court of Veterans Appeals.
