Recruiting & Retention

Dow Lohnes is determined to foster a diverse workplace and have taken a number of steps to achieve this goal.

Our Recruiting Efforts Include:

Recruiting at law schools with diverse student bodies and working with search firms to provide a diverse slate of lateral candidates.

  • Hosting an annual diversity reception for law students at our Washington, DC office to provide an opportunity for a diverse group of students to enjoy informal interaction with lawyers from all of our practices.
  • Engaging in direct outreach to diverse student organizations, programs and publications.
  • Sponsoring and participating in minority job fairs, diversity-focused networking events, career development panels and programs at law schools and working in conjunction with affinity groups like the Black Law Students Association (BLSA), Asian Pacific Law Students Association (APLSA), and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Law Students Association.

Our Retention Efforts Include:

  • Minority, women, and LGBT attorneys actively participate in the firm's governance by serving on a variety of policy and strategy committees.
  • A full-time Director of Professional Development oversees the training, mentoring and evaluation of our associates.
  • Our formal three-tiered mentor program is designed to provide associates with mentoring relationships geared to the different stages of their professional development and career needs.
  • Our Minority Networking Affinity Group is an internal support network and promotes informal mentoring relationships. Monthly meetings provide a forum to discuss issues and ideas relating to professional and personal development, recruiting and retention of minority attorneys.

Dow Lohnes actively participates in diversity-related organizations and encourages attorney involvement in events sponsored by these and other groups:

  • Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA)
  • DC Minority Attorney Networking Series
  • The Atlanta Legal Diversity Consortium (of which we were a founding member)
  • The Atlanta Women’s Foundation
  • Women in Cable & Telecommunications
  • Women's Bar Association
