Mr. Olson represents Dow Lohnes' clients in civil litigation matters before federal and state courts at both the trial and appellate level and also in arbitration proceedings. Representative matters include defamation claims, insurance coverage disputes, patent litigation, complex contract and communications lawsuits, aviation and other regulatory matters, and trusts and estates disputes.
Mr. Olson has developed particular expertise in assisting clients with their First Amendment and insurance coverage issues. Mr. Olson has defended clients in numerous defamation actions, including a plastic surgeon's lawsuit against a major television station that sought substantial damages over a series of investigative reports. He has also represented media companies in connection with third-party subpoenas, counseled them on access and newsgathering issues, and reviewed content for liability risks prior to publication.
As part of Dow Lohnes' insurance coverage litigation and counseling practice, Mr. Olson has assisted clients in recovering millions of dollars under their insurance policies, through both litigation and negotiations with insurers. Mr. Olson has counseled clients regarding coverage issues under numerous types of policies, including Directors & Officers, Commercial General Liability, Media Peril, Crime Loss, and Homeowner policies. He has also assisted clients in expanding their insurance coverage by drafting custom provisions for inclusion in their policies.
Mr. Olson is an active part of Dow Lohnes' patent practice, and represents clients in both patent litigation and counseling matters. He also assists clients as part of Dow Lohnes' aviation litigation practice on issues involving compliance with the Department of Transportation's flight and duty time regulations.
